Fruit Beers

Belgian Fruit beers made with Lambic, are perhaps the most distinctive of all Belgian brews. Belgian Lambic Beers frequently have a sweet and sour taste. Whole fruits are traditionally added after spontaneous fermentation has started. Kriek (cherries), Framboise (raspberries), Peche (peach) and Cassis (blackcurrant) are common fruits, all producing subtle to intense fruit characters respectively. Once the fruit is added, the Fruit beer is subjected to additional maturation before bottling. Malt and hop characters are generally low to allow the fruit to consume the palate. Alcohol content of Belgian Fruit lambic beers tends to be low.

Lindeman's, Timmerman's and Liefman's Brewers are the best-known brewers of the fruit beer art.
