The recipe has its origin in the 14th century. The present version is a little more heavy and contains more hops. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical tastes of spice creates a perfect harmony between the powerful taste of brown beers and the freshness of the blond beers.

In 2004 Gouden Carolus Christmas won the Silver Award in the World Beer Cup, San Diego, USA in the “Dark Strong Ale” category.

Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of the Gouden Carolus beer range.

Colour: Gold-yellow colour.
Tasting: Hoppy aroma with a gentle, but nevertheless bitter aftertaste.
Hops: Golding, Spalt, Hallertau and Saaz. Theys were fractioned at several times in the cooking process in order to keep a maximum of aroma.

The name "Hopsinjoor" is in one respect wordplay alluding to the four hop varieties that are used (Goldings, Spalt, Hallertau and Saaz), and on the other hand refers to a character of Mechelen folklore, the "opsinjoor”.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Cuvée van de Keizer Blue, the Gouden Carolus brewery launched a blond-version : Cuvée van de Keizer Rood (or Cuvée van de Keizer Red). This speciality beer is similar to the Gouden Carolus Easter Beer.

Cuvée van de Keizer Rood is a golden blond colour beer, with an ABV of 10 % and a full and balanced taste.

For ideal tasting pour out gently in one pull to a temperature round 7-8° C.
